Server Settings Tab

This section allows you to see who is currently connected to the Apollo Database Server. From here you can also change the Port number used by the server, regulate the maximum number of concurrent client connections, and adjust the session timeout settings.

Check the Auto-Refresh box to have the Apollo Server Manager automatically poll the remote server at the interval (in seconds) specified by Refresh Rate to automatically refresh the Current Connections list. Or, just click the Refresh Connection List at any time to manually refresh the list.

You can also view and edit the following server settings from this page:

Server Name

The name assigned to the remote server. This allows you to identify the server easier, when dealing with multiple remote servers. By default, this is Apollo Database Server, but you can change it to be something unique to the location of the server (ex: My Apollo Server or Corporate One, etc.)

Server Port

Default is 8121.

The TCP/IP port number used by the server at the IP address where this server is installed. If there is a firewall running on the server PC, it must be configured to allow entry through this port number.

This value can be safely changed while clients are already connected to the server without causing them to be disconnected. However, any new connections must use the new Prot number for the connection to be successful.

Note: Previous versions used port 5000 and 6000, but this conflicted with Windows XP.

Maximum Client Connections

The maximum number of client connections allowed on the server at one time.

When configuring an Unlimited User Edition of the Apollo Database Server, you can set this to any value from 1 or above to limit the number of concurrent client connections. Or, set this to zero (0) to support unlimited concurrent users.

When configuring the 10-User Edition of the Apollo Database Server, you can set this to any value from 1 to 10 to limit the number of concurrent client connections.

When configuring the 2-User Test Edition of the Apollo Database Server, you can set this to 1 or 2 to limit the number of concurrent client connections.

Session Timeout

After the specified amount of time in minutes with no activity, a client connection will automatically be dropped.  Zero disables the timeout. Setting a Timeout value is not usually required when using the Unlimited User Edition.

This setting is especially useful when configuring the 2-User or 10-User Editions. It allows the Apollo Server to efficiently manage inactive user connections by preventing users from logging onto an Apollo Server indefinitely. Setting this property to 5 would automatically drop user connections after 5 minutes of inactivity, thereby allowing another user to connect. This is ideal in offices where users connect to a server then leave their computer stations indefinitely.

Auto-Refresh and

Refresh Rate

Specifies how often the Server Manager should check for new users. The Refresh Connections button may be pressed to refresh the list immediately.
